BPC-157

Does BPC-157 work?

Not properly: mostly rat studies, and one report of 12 patients.

CAnimal and cell studiesNot approvedas of 2026-10-27

A 2025 systematic review found 36 studies of BPC-157 for musculoskeletal injury: 35 preclinical, almost all in rats from one Zagreb research group, and one retrospective human series of 12 patients with knee pain. No randomized or controlled human trial has been published, so the healing claims rest on animal data (grade C). 413

A 2025 systematic review from the Hospital for Special Surgery searched the literature to June 2024. It found 36 eligible studies on muscle and joint effects: 35 animal and lab studies and one clinical study. The clinical study was a retrospective report of 12 patients. They received BPC-157 injections into the knee for unspecified chronic knee pain. 7 of them reported relief lasting more than six months. There was no control group, no blinding and no objective outcome measure. 413

No randomized trial, controlled trial or prospective group study of BPC-157 in humans has been published for any use. A 2026 STAT News profile of Sikiric records that he acknowledges the lack of human trials. He blames a lack of funding. 3
