Is BPC-157 safe?
No human safety data
Animal and lab safety studies reviewed in 2025 found no adverse effects across several organ systems in rodents. The peptide has a half-life under 30 minutes. The liver breaks it down and the kidneys clear it. The same review found no clinical safety data at all. 13
The practical risks are therefore those of an unregulated product. Vials sold online may have unknown purity, contamination or wrong labels. The FDA's 2023 decision placed BPC-157 in Category 2. It cited a lack of safety data and concerns about immune reactions and peptide impurities. The nominators later withdrew it, and the Category 2 page now lists it as nominated but withdrawn. BPC-157 promotes blood vessel growth in animal models. So there is a theoretical concern that it could feed tumours, but no study has examined this. WADA prohibits BPC-157 at all times under its non-approved substances class, and USADA has warned athletes about it. 7914
