Does DSIP work?
Not properly: animal or lab studies, or small uncontrolled human reports. small, old studies; the best had 16 people.
For sleep, the use DSIP is sold for, the human evidence is a cluster of small studies from the late 1970s and 1980s, mostly from the group that discovered the peptide, plus one later double-blind trial in 16 chronic insomniacs whose authors called the effect weak. There has been no adequately powered trial in the past 30 years, and no study of the injectable products now sold online. 267
The first clinical work came from Schneider-Helmert and Schoenenberger in Switzerland. They reported that a short course of DSIP by vein normalized sleep in most of a small group of chronic insomniacs. They later reported benefit in small series of patients with chronic pain and with withdrawal states. These were small studies, some open-label. The group that found the peptide ran them. 234
The best-controlled trial came in 1992. It was a randomized, double-blind study in 16 chronic insomniacs. They were given DSIP by vein or placebo. Sleep efficiency and sleep latency improved slightly more on DSIP. But the authors judged the effects weak. They said part of the difference could come from a shift in the placebo group. 6
Evidence checklist
- Randomised controlled trial One double-blind trial, 16 insomniacs
- Human study over 100 people Largest controlled study was 16 people
- More than one research group Mostly the discovering group's studies
- Clinical outcomes, not surrogate markers Sleep measures only; effect called weak
- Human safety data beyond case reports Old IV studies; no repeated-use data
