Is AOD-9604 safe?
Only 'well tolerated' claims, unpublished
The maker's six trials reported that AOD-9604 was well tolerated. Side effects matched placebo. There was no effect on IGF-1 or on glucose handling, and no anti-drug antibodies were found. This safety summary is the one human finding that was published. 12
The FDA's 2023 review put AOD-9604 in Category 2 for compounding. It cited too little safety information and worries about immune reactions and impurities in peptide products. The nomination was later withdrawn, and in December 2024 an FDA advisory committee voted 12 to 0 against adding it to the list of substances pharmacies may compound. Products sold online are not tested for identity or purity. Anti-doping labs have analysed seized vials. The World Anti-Doping Agency lists AOD-9604 as a banned growth hormone fragment. 4789
