Is Motixafortide safe?
Injection reactions, anaphylaxis documented
Injection-site reactions (pain, redness, itching) occurred in 73 percent of patients in GENESIS. They were severe in 9 percent. That is why the label calls for antihistamine and pain-relief premedication. A minority had whole-body reactions such as flushing, itching and hives. Anaphylactic shock was reported. Other common effects were back pain, nausea and low blood pressure. 12
The drug moves cells out of the marrow. So the label warns that it may mobilize leukemic cells. It should not be used in leukemia. Tumor cells may enter the collected product, with unknown effect. White cell counts rise. The drug can also harm a developing fetus. Data in patients with kidney impairment are limited. Patients get only one or two doses, so long-term exposure data do not apply. 2
