Limb and organ ischemia rates compared

Vasopressin narrows blood vessels everywhere. So it can cut blood flow to the fingers and toes, gut, skin and heart. This is most likely at higher infusion rates. In VASST, ischemia of the fingers and other serious side effects occurred at similar rates in both arms. Low sodium from water retention is a listed effect. So is a fall in cardiac output or heart rate. 12

The label notes that studies cover only its use as an add-on in patients already getting catecholamines. Stopping it suddenly can cause blood pressure to fall. The label does not describe use outside monitored settings. 2
