Adverse reactions are rare. None needing treatment occurred in the 78-patient study. The radiation dose is modest and lower than the older scan's. The main risk in reading the scan is a false positive from benign uptake. Patients on long-acting octreotide or lanreotide are usually scanned just before their next dose. Those drugs occupy the same receptor and can reduce tumor uptake. 12
