Is KPV safe?
No human safety data
No human safety data exist. In mice, KPV caused no reported toxicity. Its parent hormone is a natural human peptide. In theory, KPV has an edge over the hormone. It skips the skin darkening and the appetite effects that melanocortin receptors cause. But no one has checked that in people. Nobody has tested online products for purity or for sterility. 31
The October 2026 HHS policy does not add safety data. It covers only oral and topical KPV, and for oral products the compounder is expected to hold evidence that the formulation is absorbed. Its own text says compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and the FDA does not review their safety before sale. News reports say FDA scientists opposed the policy. 57
