Is Triptorelin safe?
Hot flashes, bone loss, cardiac warnings
The side effects are those of testosterone or estrogen loss. Roughly half of men get hot flashes. Others get erectile dysfunction, loss of libido and fatigue. Over time they lose bone density and muscle. Injection-site pain is common. The brief hormone flare after the first dose can cause bone pain. Rarely, it causes spinal cord compression or urinary blockage in men with metastases. 12
The label warns of a higher risk of diabetes and heart events with androgen deprivation therapy as a class. It also warns of QT interval prolongation on the ECG and rare pituitary apoplexy (sudden bleeding into a pituitary tumor). In children, Triptodur carries warnings about psychiatric symptoms and seizures reported with GnRH agonists. 23
